At least 15 people were killed and 10 injured in stampede in a football stadium in Afghanistan’s eastern Nangarhar Province, where thousands of Afghans gathered to get visa outside Pakistani consulate.
The local Afghan authorities including Zahir Adil, the spokesperson for the public health directorate in Nangarhar have confirmed that 11 women are among the dead out of 15 while several senior citizens were injured.
According to Afghan provincial officials over 3,000 Afghans had gathered to collect tokens needed to apply for a visa to travel to Pakistan.
Recently Pakistan has announced a fresh relaxed visa policy for Afghans seeking to travel to Pakistan for medical treatment. The new visa policy offers many facilities and easy process with less hustle however mismanagement on outside the consulates by local Afghan authorities often create problems for Afghan visa seekers.
